We’re looking for experienced care workers to help us make a difference to children’s lives in our carehomes based in Dover, Deal and Sandwich. In our small family-sized homes of three or four children, the role of Children’s Support Worker is to provide safety, support, care and guidance at an important time in their young lives.

Some of the Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Senior Shift Leader in our Therapeutic Community, you will play a pivotal role in providing safety, support, therapeutic care, guidance, and nurture to the children and young people in our Therapeutic Community. This is a physically and mentally demanding role that will challenge and reward you.

You will lead shifts and assume managerial responsibilities in the absence of the Senior Management Team.

Your role will involve induction and mentoring of new staff, promoting, and displaying good practice, and overseeing the implementation of agreed care plans. Additionally, you will promote key life skills and appropriate behaviours, encourage interests, activities, games, education, and foster the development of independent living skills in preparation for transition to foster care and independent living.

  • Lead and supervise a team of Residential Support Workers during assigned shifts, providing guidance, support, and mentorship as needed.
  • Facilitate supervisions for staff within the home, promoting professional development and growth opportunities.
  • Ensure adequate and appropriate staffing coverage in the absence of the Registered Manager, maintaining continuity of care and support.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the staff rota system and how it is implemented within our organisation.
  • To work alongside and in partnership with team members and other multi agency professionals.
  • Form part of a team who provide flexible, 1:1 support for young people as part of a shift pattern covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year within your identified place of work, alongside working within the wider community as requested by the needs of the organisation.
  • Collaborate with management to address any operational challenges, contributing to the continuous improvement of our residential childcare services.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for children, following safeguarding procedures and responding promptly to any incidents or emergencies that arise.
  • Assist in the accurate and timely recording of children’s daily and monthly reports, review risk assessments and other associated documentation as required.
  • Assist in the completion of weekly budget sheets, conduct internal audits on stored medication, sign off staff timesheets, read, check, and monitor daily logs and other reports, highlighting any concerns to Management.
  • Play a key role in the planning and facilitation of transition plans for the children and young people.
  • Undertaking other duties as may be deemed appropriate from time to time.
  • To contact on-call manager/Out of Hours notifying them of any safeguarding or urgent issues regarding the children or the home.

What we are looking for:

  • You must be 21 years of age or over.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Calm, approachable manner, adaptable and non-judgemental.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within a residential children’s home or similar environment.
  • Able to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Basic housekeeping and cooking skills.
  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Children’s Services or equivalent qualification
