The Sallygate School is an Independent Special School catering to the unique needs of pupils with SEMH, Attachment Disorder, ADHD, ASC and Anxiety. Located in the heart of the Alkham Valley, near Dover, the Sallygate School is part of Channels & Choices Therapeutic Community which comprises of 7 residential children’s homes, Forest school and an independent fostering agency.

This post is for a full time permanent Pastoral Manager position, working 37.5 hours per week – to include school holidays. We offer a competitive salary range of £31,650 – £35,674 per annum – dependant on qualifications and experience. Further benefits include a £2,000 SEN allowance, paid in equal 12 monthly instalments and 36 days paid annual leave per year and a loyalty scheme which rewards you with extra annual leave following 2 years of service – Annual leave to be taken within the school holidays.

Overall purpose of Job
To enable all pupils to successfully engage in their education by providing leadership, support around student behaviour for learning. This will primarily involve working with pupils to address barriers to learning and make sure effective plans and procedures are in place, working in partnership with the Channels and Choices community leaders.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work strategically with students and teaching staff to develop individual pupils behaviour for learning
- Use the school MIS system to monitor behaviour incidents and ensure the correct support is efficiently provided to the pupil and the classroom
- To apply appropriate consequences consistently across the school to behaviour incidents involving pupils
- Manage the successful return to school of pupils following a suspension, developing their behaviour for learning toolkit
- Promote high standards of behaviour and consistently ensure consistency across the school in the implementation of the school’s behaviour policy
- Make sure each member of staff has access to, understands and can apply consistently, the school’s behaviour and pastoral procedures and strategies, especially new staff
- Work alongside the Teacher in charge of whole school behaviour implementing behaviour for learning strategies
- Work with the SENCO to identify pupils in need of additional support to help develop support plans
- Work with senior leaders to develop whole-school pastoral care policies and action plans
- Participate in senior leadership meetings, as required
- Communicate effectively with the required adults should a student be internally or externally suspended
- Making referrals to the family liaison lead.
- Communicate with parents/carers following behavioural incidents to discuss the effectiveness of the support in place for their child
- Maintain regular contact with parents/carers to discuss their child’s behaviour for learning
- Build positive relations with parents/carers to encourage family involvement in their child’s progress
- Communicate with parents/carers about specific support in place for their child
- Assist parents/carers with any information they need to support their child
- Build and refresh knowledge on the range of external support available that could support pupils’ individual needs
- Present whole school behaviour data to headteacher when required
- Daily meetings with HT and pupil support regarding behaviour issues
- Facilitate the transfer of relevant pupil information inside and outside the school
- Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies
- Work with the designated safeguarding lead to promote the best interests of pupils, including sharing concerns where necessary
- Carryout ongoing welfare checks for children during school holidays.

· Knowledge of the statutory agencies’ roles in safeguarding children and adults at risk.
· Experience of working as a deputy DSL · Knowledge and understanding of diverse faiths, communities and cultures. · Understanding the effects of various conditions that affect some children such as, but not limited to ADHD, autism, Aspergers syndrome, foetal alcohol spectrum disorder. · |

Appraisal
Appraisal assessment will be based on the responsibilities outlined above and judgements will be made against these within the agreed timescale. The Headteacher/Leadership team will manage the person in this post.
