Welcome from the Headteacher
Every child can achieve, every child can belong, every child can thrive.
Thank you for visiting Sallygate School, part of Channels & Choices. It is a privilege to serve as Headteacher of a community that believes unreservedly in the potential of every child. Our pupils are remarkable young people. With the right relationships, high expectations and purposeful structure, they flourish—academically, socially and emotionally.
At Sallygate, we are a values-led, trauma-informed school. This means we create calm, predictable routines; we teach, model and celebrate positive behaviours; and we place relationships at the heart of learning. We hold a simple conviction: children do well when they are well supported, well taught and well understood.
Our four core values shape everything we do – how we teach, how we behave and how we make decisions:
We treat one another with dignity and listen so that every voice is heard. We model fairness and uphold safe, consistent boundaries.
We assume positive intent, notice the good and encourage it. We celebrate effort as well as achievement.
We help children practise perseverance, self-regulation and problem-solving. Mistakes are part of learning; setbacks are stepping stones.
We value difference and teach curiosity, empathy and inclusion. Everyone has the right to learn and the responsibility to let others learn.
These values are lived—through our routines, our language and our recognition systems—and they are visible in the pride pupils take in their work, the way they speak to each other, and the calm, purposeful feel of our school day.
What you can expect from us
Ambitious teaching tailored to each learner, with small class sizes and clear, sequenced lessons that build confidence and knowledge.
A broad, relevant curriculum leading to recognised outcomes (GCSEs, Functional Skills and vocational pathways), alongside enrichment such as Forest School, creative arts and sport.
Specialist SEMH practice grounded in therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches, with skilled staff who know pupils well and respond with consistency and care.
Positive recognition and high expectations—we notice, name and celebrate the behaviours that help children to succeed, while providing support and clear boundaries when things are hard.
Strong partnerships with parents, carers and professionals, because children thrive when the adults around them pull together. We communicate clearly, listen carefully and act promptly.
A safe, inclusive culture where safeguarding, attendance and wellbeing are everyone’s business and where each child’s story is understood and respected.
Our belief in the children
We see potential, not labels. We see children who can and will achieve—when adults believe in them, teach them well and never give up. Our promise is to hold hope on the hard days, to celebrate progress on the good days, and to keep the destination in view: confident, compassionate, capable young people who are ready for their next steps in education, training or employment, and in life.
If you are a parent or carer considering Sallygate for your child, or a professional exploring a placement, you are warmly invited to visit us. Come and feel the calm, see learning in action and speak with our staff and pupils.
With warmest wishes,
Wayne Beech
